Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi reformulated some of the French Empire style chairs by simplifying the decorative elements and by emphasizing the structural features. The chair was such a success that soon after many factories opened in Chiavari and neighboring towns. The Chiavarina became a world icon and it is still used today in noble and important events.
